October 2002 – September 2018

LOCATION

A Bug’s Land – If you arrived in A Bug’s Land through the main entrance, you’d follow the path until you reach Flik’s Flyers. You’d see the Ladybug Boogie on your right, across from the Princess Dot Puddle Park. If you were coming from Hollywood Land, turn left once inside A Bug’s Land, and you’d be right in front of the attraction.

BACKGROUND

Francis’ Ladybug Boogie opened as part of “Flik’s Fun Fair”, the rear section of A Bug’s Land. Like the rest of A Bug’s Land, the Ladybug Boogie transported guests into the world of A Bug’s Life, and celebrated one of the film’s most beloved characters: Francis the male ladybug.

EXPERIENCE

Guests loaded into the large ladybugs and took off for a spin around Francis’ dance floor. Francis played jazz music as the ladybugs boogied around the track, and the bugs came to a stop once the music ended.

CLOSURE

When the Tower of Terror closed to become a Guardians of the Galaxy attraction, the days of A Bug’s Land were numbered. Finally, in early 2018, Disneyland confirmed the land would close at the end of the summer season, to make room for a new Marvel themed land. Ladybug Boogie, and the rest of A Bug’s Land, closed for good in September 2018.

TRIVIA

My original rating: For families with small children, the Ladybug Boogie is a really fun ride that’s a little less nauseating than the teacups. This ride is a blend of the Mad Tea Party and Mater’s Junkyard Jamboree, with cars that move in a figure eight, but spin without whipping like the junkyard tractors. It goes surprisingly fast with the whips, and there’s no seatbelt, so prepare to bounce around as you boogie! (★★★★☆)

You could spin the ladybugs to a certain extent, but you didn’t have as much control over the cars as you do on the teacups.

Pay attention if you follow Route 66 from A Bug’s Land to Cars Land and you’d see Francis and his friends in the reeds right as you left.
