Welcome to Ask The Duchess Vol. 12, a monthly Q&A post covering a variety of resort-related topics. Ask The Duchess answers questions submitted by readers. If you have a question you’d like answered, send me a message here!

1. At what age do I need to buy my son a ticket? (submitted by Edyta)

Kids under 3 get in for free. If your son is between 3 and 10, you can purchase a discounted child ticket. All guests over age 10 need to have a standard ticket to enter either park. However, bear in mind you don’t need any ticket to get into Downtown Disney, regardless of age.

2. Is the Disneyland Hotel the only official Disney hotel at Disneyland? (submitted by Bernadette)

There are 3 official Disneyland Resort Hotels: the Disneyland Hotel, Paradise Pier Hotel, and the Grand Californian. All 3 are located on the western end of the resort, on the opposite side of Downtown Disney from the parks.

3. Which rides have single rider lines? (submitted by Andrea)

I wrote out a complete list of the single rider lines here. I hope that helps!

4. Are all of Disneyland’s areas original? (submitted by Christian)

Nope! Disneyland has grown quite a bit over the years. The original lands in the park were Main Street USA, Adventureland, Frontierland, Fantasyland, and Tomorrowland. New Orleans Square came in 1966, Critter Country (then known as Bear Country) opened in 1972, and Mickey’s Toontown arrived in 1993. Star Wars Land will open in 2017, marking the fourth new land in the park’s history.

5. Rank the mountains: Space, Splash, Thunder. (submitted by Chad)

I’m going to add the Matterhorn to this list, because we can’t forget the snowy mountain! This is so hard, but I’ll say: 1. Space, 2. Thunder, 3. Splash, 4. Matterhorn.
