Welcome to Vol. 1 of Ask The Duchess, a monthly Q&A post covering a variety of resort-related topics. Ask The Duchess answers questions submitted by readers. If you have a question you’d like answered, send me a message here!

  1. Is there a difference between an annual pass and an annual passport? (Submitted by Anonymous)

Nope! Typically most park visitors refer to them as passes, largely because people who own them are called “passholders”, but passes and passports are the same thing.

  1. What is a “good neighbor” hotel? (Submitted by Laci)

Good Neighbor hotels are independent (not Disney owned) properties nearby the Disneyland Resort. They have partnerships with Disney that allow them to sell park tickets and park merchandise directly at the hotels, and they typically offer discounts for annual passholders. However, Good Neighbor hotels are not part of the Disneyland Resort, so guests cannot participate in Magic Morning and almost never have theme park views from their hotel rooms.

  1. Can my child wear a princess costume into the park? (Submitted by Anonymous)

Yes! Children under 9 are welcome to visit the park in costume, but adults can only dress up during Mickey’s Halloween Party. You can find Disneyland’s full dress code policy here.

  1. How do I use fast passes? (Submitted by Anonymous)

Fast passes are a great system to help you get on rides faster. You can read my full post about Disneyland’s fast pass system here.

  1. Do I need a park ticket to visit Downtown Disney? (Submitted by Catherine)

Nope! If you’re coming into the Resort from the Harbor Blvd side, you’ll have to pass through a bag check to get to Downtown Disney (since you’ll be walking past the main park gates), but you won’t need a ticket. If you head into Downtown Disney from any of the Resort Hotels or from the Downtown Disney parking lot, you’ll get to skip bag check altogether.
