We Disney fans know the importance of a countdown…it builds excitement for the trip! And you can build your own little countdown, even if you don’t have wall space to hang up a countdown. This easy DIY will get you pumped for your trip, and makes for a nice little decoration too.

Block Countdown Calendar

What you’ll need:

  • 4 wood cube blocks (I found a whole bunch at Michaels)
  • 1 larger wood block (that will fit 3 cubes on top)
  • Paint & paint brush
  • Sharpie

Instructions:

1. Paint your blocks! You can paint each a different color if you want, or even try patterns, but I went for simplicity and just made everything one color.

2. On your larger block, write “Days to Disneyland” or something similar in Sharpie. The numbers on the cubes are a little trickier. You’ll only use three at a time, but you’ll need 4 to cover all of your numbers. Each cube has six sides, and here are the numbers you’ll need to write on each:

  • Cube 1: 1 – 2 – 3 – 4 – 5 – 6
  • Cube 2: 0 – 1 – 4 – 7 – 8 – 9
  • Cube 3: 0 – 2 – 3 – 7 – 8 – 9
  • Cube 4: 1 – 2 – 3 – 4 – 5 – 6

3. Set up your countdown! I keep the 4th block in a nearby drawer, but you could easily hide it behind the other blocks. You could also use chalk paint and write in your numbers every day. In that case, you’d only need 3 blocks! What I love about this DIY is that it’s so customizable; you can really make it look however you want.
