Now that September is here, it’s officially Halloween season at the Disneyland Resort. The biggest event of the Halloween season is Mickey’s Halloween Party, a villain-centric party with trick-or-treating, special parades and fireworks, and costumed fans of all ages.

Planning for the party is tons of fun, but finding a great costume can be a little challenging, especially if you’re a “grownup”. With that in mind, I’ve put together a list of a few stores I think have some of the best Halloween costumes, both Disney and non-Disney.

One important note: as you shop for costumes, make sure they meet the Halloween Party guidelines. If they don’t, you’ll be denied admission until and unless you change, with no refund for your ticket.

DISNEY STORE

Perhaps the most obvious choice, the Disney Store is really only an option for the youngest members of the family. Their costumes are far and away the best quality, and most costumes have all kinds of accessories. But aside from a t-shirt or hat, teens and adults would be hard pressed to find a costume here.

TARGET

Target has a great selection of costumes for the whole family, with some available as a group costume set. If you don’t want to go all out, you can even purchase some basic accessories for a more low-key costume.

AMAZON

No surprise here; Amazon has a HUGE selection of costumes for every age group. Obviously the quality will depend greatly on the seller you purchase from, so my advice would be to only purchase a costume with lots of reviews and customer pictures. But that being said, there are some genuinely awesome costumes on the site, or accessories for those looking for a partial or less dramatic costume.

HOT TOPIC

This is definitely not the first place you’d think of when it comes to buying a Disney costume. This store doesn’t have kids costumes, but the men’s and women’s options cover all kinds of Disney characters. I’ve purchased two different Halloween Party costumes from Hot Topic, a short Elsa dress with a cape and a full Alice costume, and was impressed by both.

Choosing a Halloween costume is the trickiest part of the Halloween Party. But once you’ve decided, it’s nothing but excitement! Where do you buy your Halloween costumes? Do you stick to Disney characters, or do you like to branch out? Let me know in the comments.
