Big Thunder Mountain Railroad is one of my favorite attractions at the Disneyland Resort; the queue, track, and mountainside are each so intricately detailed. There’s so much to see, and it’s impossible to take it all in when you’re racing on the train. Lucky for us, the Disneyland Hotel offers a unique birds-eye view.
Venture into the Frontier Tower lobby, and you’ll find this model of Big Thunder, built on a 1/4″ = 1′ scale.
Imagineers use these kinds of models to finalize plans for Disneyland’s attractions. This model is a recreation of the original one used to create Frontierland‘s famous coaster in the 1970s.
So if you’re ever wondering exactly how the track weaves in and out of the mountain, or you’re curious to see how the twists and turns fit together, the scale model will help you better understand the wildest ride in the wilderness.
