LOCATION

Sunshine Plaza – Bur-r-r Bank Ice Cream anchored the end of the train section on Sunshine Plaza’s right side. Guests entered the park, crossed under the Golden Gate Bridge, and kept right. The Ice cream shop stood at the end, just before the entrance to Golden State’s Condor Flats.

EXPERIENCE

Details:

  • Service Type – quick service
  • Seating – nearby outdoor patio
  • Entertainment – none

Bur-r-r Bank Ice Cream welcomed guests into California Adventure and offered a refreshing snack in the midst of the park’s sunniest land. Guests grabbed a cone or cup from the railway car shop, and enjoyed their ice cream on the platform patio circling the center of the plaza. For an extra dose of sugar, guests could also visit the bakery next door, and many visitors mixed those goodies with their ice cream for the ultimate sweet treat.

CLOSURE

When California Adventure announced its major expansion and renovation project, Sunshine Plaza was the first to go. This land received the most dramatic transformation, and every single shop, restaurant, and piece of décor was ripped out. Bur-r-r Bank Ice cream closed at the end of July in 2011, and the new Buena Vista Street opened roughly one year later. The new land included an ice cream parlor in the same exact location: Clarabelle’s.

TRIVIA

Bur-r-r Bank Ice Cream’s tiling drew inspiration from Union Station in Los Angeles.

The walls in the ice cream shop displayed train art set in the wintertime, blending the theme of cold desserts with the shop’s train exterior.
