A while back, I posted an easy fall Mickey wreath DIY. But now that my mind is totally on the upcoming holiday season, I’ve got a new Christmas-y version!
What you’ll need:
- Some kind of string material to create your base – I found this cheap string with leaves and berries at Michaels, but any kind of garland, string, or cordage that can hold its shape will work fine
- White or silver pipe cleaners
- Optional: twine/string matching your base material, for finishing
Instructions:
1. Use the end of your string and create a loop the desired size of your wreath. Use this as your guide, and continue to create more loops until your wreath reaches a thickness you’re happy with. If your string has little branches like mine does, wrap the branches around the loops to keep all the layers together. If it doesn’t, use some matching twine/string and tie the loops together 4-5 times, spread evenly around the circle.
2. Now for the Disney magic. Use your pipe cleaner to make little Mickeys. You can make them as big or small as you want, but I thought the smaller ones looked like snow from a distance, which was the look I was going for. To make these, start with the ears. Make two little twists in the pipe cleaner, like this:
3. Then, loop the pipe cleaner into a circle underneath (the face), and wrap it around itself to hold its shape. To attach the little Mickeys to the wreath, use some extra pipe cleaner to tie them into the wreath, trimming off the extra ends from the tie so it’s not so noticeable.
And that’s it! Your own magical wreath with some Hidden Mickeys mixed in. You can also try Minnie if you want, with red pipe cleaner for the bow. Or, you can even print other characters on card stock and stick them between the branches!
