As a 90s kid, Disney VHS tapes were the soundtrack to my childhood. I’ll still never forgive my mom (or myself) for throwing them out – I can still smell the boxes and hear the sound of the “rewinder” before putting them back on the shelf! But there’s one Disney VHS I have particular fondness for, and that’s the topic of today’s post. Let’s take a look back atย Disneyland Fun.

This tape played on repeat in our house, even though I had never been to California, never mind Disneyland. The special marked Disneyland’s 35th anniversary (1990), and sped through a full day of fun at the park over the course of 30 minutes. The sing-along songs featured include:
- “Sing-Along Series theme song”
- “Whistle While You Work” fromย Snow White
- “Step in Time” fromย Mary Poppins
- “I’m Walkin’ Right Down the Middle of Main Street USA” (original to the special)
- “Follow the Leader” fromย Peter Pan
- “The Great Outdoors” from Country Bear Jamboree
- “Zip-a-Dee-Doo-Dah” fromย Song of the South
- “Rumbly in My Tumbly” from Winnie the Pooh and the Honey Tree
- “It’s A Small World theme song”
- “Making Memories” from Magic Journeys, a former Disneyland attraction (post coming soon!)
- “Grim Grinning Ghosts” from the Haunted Mansion
- “The Character Parade” from various Disneyland parades in the 70s and 80s
- “When You Wish Upon A Star” fromย Pinocchio
30+ years later, the video now serves as an amazing time capsule of the park. You can see long extinct attractions like Fort Wilderness, see how character designs have evolved over time, and get some style inspiration from the early 90s fashion of park guests. I particularly loved seeing the villains gathered at the Haunted Mansion; they’ve really stepped up villain looks in the years since, especially at Halloween time.
If you too have lost your VHS (or maybe are too young to have owned one!), you can watch the full special on YouTube. Check out the link below for a blast to the past and some A+ millennial nostalgia.
I’ve got this on DVD! I bought it when my great-nieces were little, and it was hard to believe that all the kids in the film were now adults. I still have the DVD and although I haven’t played it in quite a while, I have no intention of getting rid of it!
