October 2002 – present
LOCATION
A Bug’s Land – When entering from Hollywood Land, you would find the puddle park in the rear, toward the Route 66 entrance to Cars Land. If you arrived through the main entrance to A Bug’s Land, you’d see the Puddle Park straight ahead, across from Flik’s Flyers.
BACKGROUND
In keeping with A Bug’s Land and its bug-sized themes, the Princess Dot Puddle Park shrunk guests to Princess Dot’s size, and little kids had the chance to play with other little ants in a wet environment. The spurting fountains, dripping faucet, and mist were fun, exciting features that the youngest park visitors loved.
EXPERIENCE
Princess Dot’s Puddle Park was a wet area with spurting fountains and misters. Its shady, private enclosure offered guests relief from the sun and heat, and gave little ones a place to run free. Older visitors or guests interested in bigger rides and attractions wouldn’t find much to do in the Puddle Park, but it was a nice place for families with small children to slow down and take a break.
CLOSURE
When the Tower of Terror closed to become a Guardians of the Galaxy attraction, the days of A Bug’s Land were numbered. Finally, in early 2018, Disneyland confirmed the land would close at the end of the summer season, to make room for a new Marvel themed land. The Puddle Park, and the rest of A Bug’s Land, closed for good in September 2018.
TRIVIA
My original rating: The Puddle Park is a favorite among little ones, and it a haven on hot days in the park. Unless you want to play in the faucet fountains, there isn’t much to see or do, but it’s a really nice spot to get some relief from the heat. (★☆☆☆☆)
Princess Dot’s Puddle Park, along with many other rides in A Bug’s Land, was designed to accommodate younger visitors. When California Adventure first opened, many guests complained that the park didn’t have as many kid-friendly areas as Disneyland.
Princess Dot Puddle Park sometimes closed or greatly reduced its fountains during the rain.
Parents with drenched kids could get them dry and changed in the two family restrooms located next door.
This is surprising for a disney park. I would expect there to be more than just two sprinkler things and some rain showers. Very disappointing.
I agree. Disneyland and California Adventure both have overwhelming amounts of detail. To call this a “Puddle Park” is a bit of a stretch. They could easily add some statues of bugs, or more interactive water features (like a leaf dumping water), or just something to make it more interesting.
