It makes sense for a land based on a comic universe to have a backstory. Avengers Campus‘ story is interwoven with that of the Stark family, specifically Tony’s father Howard. Howard Stark’s company Stark Industries once owned the land and built a complex here. But when Tony inherited it from his father, he repurposed the old campus to recruit future Avengers. But there are still traces of Stark Industries hidden throughout the land – one that can help you visualize the backstory I just described.
To find this hidden gem, walk toward the WEB building, particularly the side with the giant red wall and spider logo. You’ll see this grey structure with a Stark Industries Map on one side.
You’ll see how the land evolved into the campus:
- Stark Motors – which became Web Slingers
- AccuTech – which became WEB Suppliers
- Pym Labs – which became the Pym Test Kitchen
- Stark Aeronautics – which is now the building holding the Quinjet
- Quarantine zone – which when investigated, uncovered the Ancient Sanctum
- Control tower/runways – which were taken over by the Collector’s Fortress
You’ll also see some subtle nods to other “lands” in the park, like the scrap yard (now the back of Mater’s Junkyard Jamboree) and the Stark family vineyards (now the Pacific Wharf area with the tasting terraces)
The other side of the display structure includes a plaque with a brief explanation of the backstory above. It reads:
Originally, this site was a restricted Stark Industries complex, dedicated to top-secret research. Now, its doors have been opened. It has been remade into Avengers Campus to be a home where earth’s mightiest heroes can assemble from across time and space to freely share their technology, skills, and knowledge with all.
