Guests looking for souvenir Mickey ears or a hat love Fantasyland’s Mad Hatter shop. This quaint shop, located right next to the Mad Tea Party and Alice in Wonderland, has the largest selection of hats outside of Main Street USA, as well as custom embroidery to personalize your purchase. But did you know that this shop is also boasts a hidden gem of its own?
To find this hidden gem, head to the back of the shop and take a look at the mirror behind the cash registers.
Every so often, the inside of the mirror will glow, revealing the Cheshire Cat himself!
Though the Cheshire Cat is incredibly hard to capture with a camera (the lighting in the shop makes getting a good picture near impossible), he’s very easy to spot in person. Whether or not you’re looking for a hat as you explore Fantasyland, take a second to swing by the Mad Hatter and check out the Cheshire Cat; he’s definitely one of the least-publicized hidden gems in the park.
When I went a few years ago they were fixing the mirror so I actually saw the full Cheshire they use. Kinda cool.
That is cool! Although I’m a little surprised they’d fix that in front of guests. Kinda ruins the magic effect haha.
Awesome. I never look for the hidden stuff like this in stores. Will have to check it out.
Haha you should! And remember, shops at Disneyland are certainly not exempt from amazing little details 🙂
Where is this? By the Alice ride?
Yes! If you stand next to the tree holding all the lanterns for the teacups (also next to Alice), you’ll see a hut with a straw roof. That’s the Mad Hatter shop. Go inside, and watch the mirror behind the cash registers. The Cheshire Cat appears every 20-30 seconds or so.
