March 2023 – present
LOCATION
Mickey’s Toontown – After crossing under the bridge and into Toontown, turn left and follow the walkway. You’ll see the GADGET Coaster on your left, just beyond Donald’s Duck Pond.
BACKGROUND
Since its opening day in 1993, Mickey Toontown had always had a “kiddie coaster”. The original, called Gadget’s Go Coaster, was designed as a miniature thrill ride without inversions or dramatic drops that might deter little ones from participating in the fun. When Disney announced plans to update and enhance the land, the coaster would also get a refresh and new theming. The current version of the ride, Chip ‘n’ Dale’s GADGET Coaster, opened to the public in March 2023.
EXPERIENCE
Details:
- Single rider line – no
- Lightning lane – no
- Height Requirement – 35” (89 cm)
- Duration – 0:45
Visitors to Chip ‘n’ Dale’s Gadget Coaster get a tour of Toon Lake from an elevated vantage point. The coaster loops a few times around rock features and hills, dodging spurts of water and a few narrow corners. Overall, the ride is less than a minute long and a perfect test run to see if little ones (or just thrill ride skeptics) are ready to board larger attractions.
MY RATING – ★★☆☆☆
No one would expect this ride to be an adrenaline-pumping rush. That being said, there are tamer rides that still entertain with scenery and details, and this just isn’t one of them. If you have a child with you that doesn’t want to brave a bigger roller coaster, this ride is a good alternative. But if everyone in your party does like coasters or this isn’t a big priority, I’d say it’s not worth waiting in a long line for.
VISITNG TIPS
Like the rest of Toontown, this coaster closes early for the fireworks – so don’t put it off for your last stop of the night. Otherwise, the crowd flow here is pretty steady. On particularly hot days, I’d just recommend going sooner rather than later, as there is little shade over the queue area and with the cement it can get HOT while you wait.
TRIVIA
At peak capacity, this coaster can support 780 riders per hour.
