Roger Rabbit's Car Toon Spin

January 1994 – present

LOCATION

Mickey’s Toontown – After crossing under the bridge and into Toontown, you’ll find Roger Rabbit’s Car Toon Spin on the right, behind the large fountain.

BACKGROUND

After the major success of the 1989 film Who Framed Roger Rabbit?, Disney saw an opportunity to bring the toons into the parks. At Disneyland, Imagineers drafted plans for a new land behind Main Street USA, called “Hollywoodland”. But after the Euro Disneyland Resort became a financial burden, these plans were massively scaled down. Instead, Disneyland would open a new land behind Fantasyland, called “Mickey’s Toontown”, with only one ride dedicated to Roger Rabbit and the toons. So in 1994, one year after Toontown opened, Roger Rabbit’s Car Toon Spin opened its doors and became the new land’s biggest attraction.

EXPERIENCE

Details:

  • Single Rider Line – no
  • Fast Pass – yes
  • Height Requirement – none
  • Duration – 3:30

Guests enter Toontown in the waiting area, where they wander past the alleys behind the theaters, the Ink & Paint Club, and windows in which many famous toons set up the plot for the ride. At the very beginning of the ride, the cabs step into the treacherous “dip”, forcing the riders to steer for their lives as they wind through Toontown. Along the way, riders flee from the weasels, as they attempt to kidnap Jessica Rabbit and destroy the other toons with the deadly dip. But in the end, riders and the toons escape to safety, and the weasels retreat, waiting for their guests to return and brave the streets of Toontown once again.

MY RATING: ★★★☆☆

The Car Toon Spin is a Roger Rabbit-themed blend of Mr. Toad’s Wild Ride and the Mad Tea Party. Like in the teacups, riders can choose whether they spin only a little or constantly whip back and forth. In fact, the first time I rode the Car Toon Spin, I got so caught up in spinning the car that I had no idea what happened during the ride!

If you enjoy Who Framed Roger Rabbit? or like the chaos of Mr. Toad and the Teacups, you’ll love Roger Rabbit’s Car Toon Spin. But if you’re easily motion sick or don’t like loud and zany rides, you might want to skip this one; the ride is inundated with screwball gags, loud cartoon sound effects, and bright colors.

I personally think the spinning takes away from the ride, because it’s hard to focus on the storyline while you’re trying to spin (the cars are somewhat difficult to get going), but most guests love this aspect. Whether you choose to spin or not, you’ll be in for a wild adventure through Toontown.

VISITING TIPS

Wait times for Roger Rabbit’s Car Toon Spin are very inconsistent; the wait can be five minutes or an hour. When I visit Toontown, I grab a fast pass unless the wait is 10 minutes or less. The waiting area for this ride is deceptively long, as it keeps winding, and I personally don’t think this ride is worth a long wait.

If you don’t want to use fast pass, visit Roger Rabbit’s Car Toon spin in the late afternoon. Unless you’re visiting during the holidays or a summer weekend, the lines will steadily decrease as the day progresses.

TRIVIA

Riders explore Toontown from inside Lenny the cab, the cousin of Benny from the film.

Roger Rabbit’s Car Toon Spin used to be disconnected from the fast pass system, meaning you could hold two fast passes for the same time window if one was Roger Rabbit. However, since 2013 this trick doesn’t work anymore, so the Car Toon Spin must now be connected to the other fast pass systems.

The only other Disney park with a Roger Rabbit ride is Tokyo Disneyland.

  1. One of my favorite memories at Disneyland was a pass holder event in which we got to walk through this attraction. It was incredible.

    • It’s so funny you should say that. A few days ago, my friend Rick (find him on Twitter: @CaptainNemo86) JUST told me about this same event. He also said it was incredible. I’m so sad I wasn’t an AP at the time, and I’m hoping they have some more awesome events like that soon!
