LOCATION
Frontierland – The American Rifle Exhibit & Frontier Gun Shop’s location is weirdly murky in Disneyland lore. Photos and early souvenir maps place the Gun Shop in a storefront now part of the Golden Horseshoe building, but some maps later in the decade listed a separate rifle exhibit by the Davy Crockett Frontier Arcade. Given the photo evidence of the Golden Horseshoe location, the other may have been a print error or an extremely short-lived second location.
EXPERIENCE
Details:
- Merchandise – gun replicas & frontier themed items
- Unique Features – antique weapon exhibit
The American Rifle Exhibit & Frontier Gun Shop was a mix of attraction and storefront. Visitors could explore a collection of antique American weaponry, from revolutionary war muskets to Colt pistols. And connected with the exhibit, visitors could purchase replicas of the weaponry, along with other small frontier themed souvenirs. Very little information is available about this shop’s specifics – including precisely what replicas were available for purchase.
CLOSURE
By the 1960s, Disneyland souvenir books and maps no longer listed the exhibit, simply calling this space the “Frontier Gun Shop”. But the shop never received much promotion, and faded into the background of Frontierland. By 1986, the shop closed for good, and the Golden Horseshoe absorbed the space as part of an expansion.
TRIVIA
Though the Frontier Gun Shop closed in 1986, Frontierland continued to sell replica and toy guns until 2001.
