July 1989 – April 2003
LOCATION
Critter Country – The Brer Bar anchored the back of Critter Country, next to the exit to Splash Mountain. Today, this space is part of Pooh’s Corner, a gift shop and bakery.
EXPERIENCE
Details:
- Service Type – quick service
- Seating – indoor dining room
- Entertainment – none
The Brer Bar became Critter Country’s saloon. Situated between the exits to both Splash Mountain and the Country Bear Jamboree, the Bar welcomed hungry and thirsty visitors all day and night. Of course, it was a dry bar, given its place in Disneyland. But this restaurant was a quaint little spot in the center of Disneyland’s most densely forested land.
CLOSURE
When the Country Bear Jamboree closed in 2001, the plan was to boost Winnie the Pooh’s presence in the land. Once his new dark ride opened up, the larger Hungry Bear Restaurant would become Critter Country’s sole restaurant. The Brer Bar would close to make way for a bakery and gift shop, themed after Pooh and his friends. The Bar closed for good in 2003, opening as “Pooh’s Corner” soon thereafter.
TRIVIA
Brer Bar replaced the Mile-Long Bar, a restaurant famous for its use of mirrors to alternate depth perception.
Brer Bar’s name came from the characters on Splash Mountain: Brer Bear, Brer Fox, and Brer Rabbit.
