January 1956 – September 1958
LOCATION
Tomorrowland – The Dairy Bar was tucked into the back of Tomorrowland, though this area is now in the center of the land’s main plaza. Guests could find the Dairy Bar on the right side of the main walkway, next to the 20,000 Leagues Under The Sea Exhibit. Today, the entire building houses Star Tours and the Star Traders gift shop.
EXPERIENCE
Details:
- Service Type – quick service
- Seating – indoor dining room
- Entertainment – miniature walkthrough exhibit
The Dairy Bar was a small quick service restaurant with its own walkthrough exhibit focused on the future of milk. Sponsored by the American Dairy Association, the Dairy Bar’s exhibit predicted a world with flying deliverymen, high-tech nutritional milk, and state-of-the-art milking technology. After checking out the exhibit, guests could purchase a glass of “nature’s nearly perfect food” and relax in the dining room.
CLOSURE
The American Dairy Association Exhibit in the Dairy Bar was less than exciting for park guests, especially since it shared a building with exhibits focused on aluminum, chemistry, and technology. The exhibit, combined with the Dairy Bar’s extremely limited menu, sealed the fate of this quick service spot. The Dairy Bar closed in 1958, just a year and a half after it opened.
TRIVIA
The entrance to the Dairy Bar’s exhibit was shaped like a giant dairy barn.
The slogan for the Dairy Bar was “Today’s food builds tomorrow’s man”.
My grandfather did all the graphic design for this exhibit and Ive been looking all over for info on it. So glad to have found some info here! Wish there was more photos somewhere though. Thank you for this article!!
That is so cool! Photos of the Dairy Bar are so hard to find, but I’ll definitely add more if I’m able to spot them 🙂
What a weird restaurant/museum? Lol.
