The holiday season has always been a big deal at Disneyland. The décor, special treats, and live entertainment add extra excitement to this time of year, and during the park’s earliest seasons, that included the Dickens-style carolers.

Starting during Disneyland’s first holiday season in 1955, groups of carolers performed classic songs on Main Street several times a day. Some wore choir robes, while others dressed in traditional Victorian English attire, stopping to sing near the Christmas tree at the end of the street.

Over time, this early caroling tradition evolved into something much larger. In 1958, Disneyland introduced the Candlelight Processional, a formal choral event that incorporated the spirit of those original carolers into a grand, staged performance. Although the standalone Dickens Carolers no longer appear as their own performance act, you can still enjoy traditional Christmas carols at the resort today as part of the annual Candlelight Processional at the town square.
