January 1993 – March 2022
LOCATION
Mickey’s Toontown – After crossing under the bridge and into Toontown, guests would follow the main path to the left. You’d find Gadget’s Go Coaster at the end of the main walkway, just after Donald’s Boat.
BACKGROUND
When Mickey’s Toontown debuted in 1993, Gadget’s Go Coaster was the land’s only operating ride. In keeping with Toontown’s focus on small children, the Go Coaster was designed as a miniature thrill ride without scary inversions or dramatic drops. Gadget’s Go Coaster opened with Mickey’s Toontown in January 1993, and drew drawn large crowds of guests big and small ever since.
EXPERIENCE
Based on Gadget Hackwrench from Chip N’ Dale Rescue Rangers, not Inspector Gadget, the ride offered guests a tour of Miss Gadget’s home on Toon Lake. To start, guests boarded in front of Gadget’s home, and she invited her new friends to join her on a trip around Toon Lake. During their trip, guests raced around oversized spools, combs, soup cans, and other random items, before meeting frogs that shoot spurts of water at riders. Finally, guests returned to Gadget’s home and continued on their travels through Toontown.
CLOSURE
In November 2021, Disneyland announced plans to redesign Mickey’s Toontown with a few goals in mind. First, to build a new headline attraction (the Runaway Railway). Second, to provide more rest areas for families. And third, to lean into the “play” aspect of the land and make every feature as interactive (and accessible) as possible. The coaster closed alongside the land in March 2022, and was rethemed into Chip ‘n’ Dale’s GADGET Coaster upon reopening in March 2023.
TRIVIA
My original rating: Gadget’s Go Coaster is the tamest coaster in the park. This is a great stop for little ones that don’t meet height requirements for other rides, or for guests that aren’t sure if they can handle the bigger coasters. While it’s a fun ride, the Go Coaster can have very long wait times (and has no fast pass). Given the short track, I don’t think the Go Coaster is worth a long wait, but if the lines aren’t too bad, I’d say go for it. (★★☆☆☆)
Gadget’s Go Coaster was Disneyland’s only junior coaster, designed primarily for small children.
Tress MacNeille, the voice of Daisy Duck, provided the voice for Gadget Hackwrench.
This is one of the few rides in the park I feel comfortable recommending that EVERYONE skip. The only circumstances in which you should ride it are a) you’re a completionist or b) you have kids that are too short to get on ANY other coaster in the park and you’ve just got to ride a coaster. Long line + short ride + the only “enjoyable” part is the theming, which you can see without actually going on it = skip.
Haha. I would largely agree. But if you take it for what it is and the park is pretty empty, it’s still fun. It goes faster than I expected. But you’re right, definitely the lowest priority coaster, by a long shot.
Love this coaster!
