Summer 1966 – Summer 2002
LOCATION
New Orleans Square – From 1966 – 1996, Le Gourmet occupied the end of Royal Street, next to the Blue Bayou. In 1996, the shop moved down the street to the front end by the water, next to the Royal Street Veranda, where it remained until its closure in 2002. Today, the first location is home to Le Bat en Rouge, and the second location houses Port Royal.
EXPERIENCE
Details:
- Merchandise – kitchen utensils and accessories, chef hats, aprons, and home wares
- Unique Features – antique copper pots hanging from the rafters
A land so heavily focused on food couldn’t skip a kitchen shop! For the New Orleans Square’s first 4 decades, Le Gourmet served up all kinds of beautiful kitchen wares, chef hats, and even the famous Aunt Sally’s Creole Pralines, complete with special Disneyland logos on the packaging. The shop sold all kinds of gear you’d never find at a theme park today, from the smallest kitchen spoons to massive copper cooking pots.
CLOSURE
While a kitchen store is an exciting idea for a place like Disneyland, it never proved to be super practical. Who wants to lug around pots and pans all day? Gradually, interest waned in the shop, until Disney decided to move it to a smaller space at the front of the street, hoping to drum up a little more interest. But by the early 2000s, the shop’s time was up, and a Haunted Mansion themed gift shop moved into its coveted front real estate.
TRIVIA
Though they may not have a Disneyland logo version anymore, you can still buy Aunt Sally’s Creole Pralines.
Le Gourmet replaced the legendary One-Of-A-Kind Shop.
I loved how diverse the shops in Disneyland used to be!
