LOCATION

Main Street USA – Visitors to Main Street USA spotted the Music Hall straight away, thanks to its coveted corner location on the right-hand side of the street. Today, this space houses the Disney Showcase.

EXPERIENCE

Details:

  • Merchandise – piano/organ showroom (not traditional retail space)
  • Unique Features – models displaying upcoming Disneyland projects, from Space Mountain to never built Discovery Bay)

In the Wurlitzer Music Hall, visitors toured a glamourous showroom displaying beautiful pianos and organs. Interested musicians could purchase rolls for their own player pianos, or leave contact information for a follow-up with the company. Guests didn’t outright purchase pianos and organs in the park, but they did explore the possibilities of future purchases.

CLOSURE

By the late 60s, Main Street USA changed dramatically. Unconventional shops like the Upjohn Pharmacy or the Music Hall closed in favor of branded retail space, selling items targeting a wider range of park visitors.

TRIVIA

Until the magic shop opened next door in 1957, the Wurlitzer Music Hall shared a doorway with the Wonderland Music Company, a music shop.

Original displays of Disneyland projects once featured in the Music Hall periodically resurface in temporary exhibitions, inside and outside of the park.
