Happy last day of March! If you visited the resort this month, you definitely saw all the ducks and little ducklings out in full force.

With spring break season coming to a close, the chaos is just getting started at the Disneyland Resort. This month, we learned that on top of typical summer crowds, the resort will also face major construction projects, a brand new festival, and a controversial change to a classic attraction. Let’s take a look back at this month at the Disneyland Resort.

BYE BYE BUGS

Ever since Guardians of the Galaxy dropped into Hollywood Land, the next announcement seemed inevitable: Marvel Land. Though we don’t know the final name or boundaries just yet, Disney confirmed this month that A Bug’s Land will close, transforming into a super hero space that will open in 2020.

We don’t have any information about attractions or character experiences yet, aside from the confirmation that Spider Man and the Avengers will be joining the Guardians within the new space. It’s Tough To Be A Bug! closed quietly on March 19, and the rest of the land will disappear by the end of the summer.

I don’t think A Bug’s Land was anyone’s favorite space in California Adventure, but I’ll definitely miss the zany Ladybug Boogie and the inexplicably charming Heimlich’s Chew Chew Train.

DOWNTOWN DISNEY LOSES EARL, RAINFOREST, & ESPN

Earlier last year, Disneyland announced plans to construct a brand new hotel, between the Disneyland Hotel and Downtown Disney. Unfortunately, in true Disneyland fashion, something old must go to make way for something new. This month, Disney confirmed that a few Downtown Disney favorites will close on June 30th, with construction beginning in July.

These closures will include the ESPN Zone, Rainforest Cafe, Earl of Sandwich, and the AMC theaters. As part of Downtown Disney’s reconfiguration, the Monorail will pass through the new hotel.

3 Comments on Resort Updates – March 2018

  1. I’m especially bummed about losing the Rainforest Cafe and the AMC Theater. Our family favorites in Downtown Disney. 🙁

    • I hear you. The Rainforest Cafe is always a lot of fun. I’m hoping the new hotel has some great restaurants to make up for it.

    • Just heard the AMC is moving across the street to the Garden Walk! So you at least get to keep 1/2 🙂
