Disneyland and California Adventure both offer all kinds of thrills, drops, and drama. Each attraction has a completely unique look and feel, so you get swept up in the magic every single time. But have you ever wondered how fast youโre actually going on those coasters? You might be surprised by which coasters fly at the same speed, and which leave the others in the dust. Here’s a breakdown of the fastest roller coasters at the Disneyland Resort.
TOP SPEEDS OF DISNEYLAND RESORT ROLLER COASTERS
55 mph: California Screaminโ (now the Incredicoaster)
40 mph: Radiator Springs Racers, Splash Mountain, Guardians of the Galaxy – Mission: BREAKOUT!
35 mph: Big Thunder Mountain Railroad, Space Mountain
27 mph: Goofyโs Sky School, Matterhorn Bobsleds
20 mph: Gadgetโs Go Coaster
14 mph: Indiana Jones Adventure
Funny, I was always told that the “true top speed” of Space Mountain ride is only 5 mph and it’s the special effects (wind, sharp curves, darkness) that make you feel like you’re going a high speed. Unless the new updates have increased the speed, but I’m positive the original is what I have stated. The fist time I was on it was probably 1983
The top speed is definitely far slower than you think, due to everything you mentioned, but it has always gone faster than 5 mph! The top speed is approx. 35 mph, which happens near the end as the turns get tighter.
I love you too much
It’s not. Space Mountain goes 28 mph. Google it! That must’ve been a typo. Lol! ๐
Interesting – I have two Disneyland encyclopedias and both say Space Mountain in California goes 32-35 at top speed, and the Magic Kingdom version maxes out at 28!
Oooh California Screamin’ sounds like one I would like to try!!!
Its no longer there the incredicoaster replaced it
True but the Incredicoaster is the same track with the same super fast speed! ๐
This was interesting to me. I like seeing the speeds right next to one another for easy comparing!
I’m actually surprised Radiator Springs Racers goes faster than Space Mountain. I never would’ve guessed. I suppose being outside changes your perception of speed, which doesn’t exist in Space Mountain.
I thought Space Mountain would be faster, too. I’m guessing that Space Mountain felt fast, with the sharp curves you take.
I think it’s the fact that you’re in the dark, too!
And the wind blowing in your face.
Iโve always wondered if fans are used in space mountain to enhance the rush of air and make it feel faster.
I’m 100% convinced this is the case!
That is correct! ๐
They are!
Cool! The Matterhorn goes faster than I realized.
There is no way Big Thunder is the same speed as Space Mountain. WHAT!
