HOW IT WORKS
The Play Disney Parks App has three components: interactive queues, games and trivia, and music playlists. To start, you choose your version: Disneyland or Walt Disney World. (For the purposes of this post, I’m just looking at the Disneyland version).
Three attractions in Disneyland offer interactive experiences through the app: Toy Story Midway Mania!, Peter Pan’s Flight, and Space Mountain. In each queue, simply open the app, let it know where you are, and answer questions and complete mini challenges to unlock features. I won’t spoil what happens, but I’ll give you one hint: the Peter Pan interactive experience involves Tinker Bell and a magic lantern.
If you’re not in one of those three attractions, the app still provides entertainment. Various hotspots on the app’s map have trivia, games to play, and quizzes to keep you entertained. Simply tap on different icons across the map to play.
And finally, if you want a soundtrack to your time in the park, the app provides a music feature (connected to Apple Music). There are different playlists tailored to certain lands, attractions, even characters, all available for streaming as you explore Disneyland and California Adventure.
MY RATING: ★★★★☆
Play Disney Parks solves a huge problem at Disneyland: keeping yourself busy in boring lines. The app’s trivia, interactive features, and playlists are limited right now (only 3 queues have interactions), but I find it impossible to believe this is the app’s final version. As Disneyland builds even more interactive queues across both parks, I think this app will be a “must download” for any park visitor.
APP USE & TIPS
You can still play all the games and check out the trivia and playlists when you’re not in Disneyland, but the interactive features for the queues won’t work outside of the park.
Word to the wise – close this app when you’re not using it. This is definitely a battery killer.
