One of the best parts of roaming Main Street is the sound of a barbershop quartet. You never know where they’ll pop up – in front of a random store, by the Refreshment Corner piano, or in the town square. Those wonderful harmonies draw in crowds and always create some excitement on the street. You know them, you love them…they’re the Dapper Dans!

Dapper Dans

The Dapper Dans arrived in Disneyland in 1959. They usually walk the street, but they occasionally ride a 4-person bicycle, custom commissioned from Schwinn by Walt himself. In addition to the bike, the Dapper Dans often use another special prop: Deagan Organ Chimes, made in Chicago in 1901.

Throughout the year, the Dans change outfits to match the season. They even transform into the Cadaver Dans during Mickey’s Halloween Party, delighting visitors with their ghoulish songs. But outside of the party, you’ll find them singing classic American songs, and of course they perform renditions of Disney favorites.

Many of the Dans belong to the Barbershop Harmony Society, and other members include Grammy winners, comedians, and actors. The Dapper Dans have become a Main Street staple, and Disneyland just wouldn’t be as magical without their energy and wonderful harmonies.
