If you’ve ever been on Main Street USA, you’ve undoubtedly seen the Disneyland Fire Department. Mickey Mouse himself often meets guests outside the station, and the fire house band performs periodically in the square as well. But did you know you can actually step inside the fire department?
Parked inside, you’ll see Walt’s favorite vehicle: the fire truck. Legend has it Walt used to drive the truck around Main Street before park opening when he was in Anaheim. And in the far corner, a fire pole once connected the fire station to Walt’s upstairs apartment, though this has been sealed off for decades.
On the right side of the station, an old fashioned stove keeps the place warm. A closed off stable room houses harnesses and other handy equipment. After all, at the turn of the century, firemen needed horses to drive the trucks! Two empty stables for “Bess and Jess” fill the righthand side of the station. None of Main Street’s horses call these stables home, but they serve as a reminder of all the horses that served fire stations of the past.
If you find yourself by the fire department as you explore Main Street USA, take a moment to peek inside. The space acts like a time capsule, showing yet another glimpse of life in early 20th century America.
Is there some significant thing with the number 105 on the front of the building?
To the best of my knowledge, it’s just the fire department’s address: 105 Main Street.
I had absolutely NO idea you could go inside the fire house!!!! There is just so much going on in Disney I don’t know how anyone can really think they’ve “seen it all”.
I agree, Angelica! I swear I discover something new on every single trip.
