Oga's Cantina

May 2019 – present

LOCATION

Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge – Finding the Cantina can be a little tricky, since none of the buildings in Galaxy’s Edge have big signs or markers. If you’re coming from the Frontierland side, walk along the main pathway toward the Millennium Falcon (the path without stairs, on the right-most side of the land). You’ll see the Cantina on your right, most notably because it always has a line outside! If you’re coming from the Critter Country end, walk past the marketplace and follow the path you’re on until it veers left. This turns into the path I mentioned previously, with the Cantina on the right.

Any Star Wars fans out there know no visit to a galaxy far, far away is complete without a trip to a cantina. Each has its own personality, droids, and unusual cocktails enticing patrons of all species. Oga’s Cantina is the Batuu hotspot, complete with its own droid DJ. Enjoy some drinks around the bar or share stories with passing travelers in the booths…and watch out for the mysterious “buzzz” foam.

MY RATING: ★★★☆☆

I really, really struggled with my ultimate rating of the Cantina. For atmosphere, it’s a 5 – the place really makes you feel like you’ve stepped inside a Star Wars movie. The music is fun, bartenders funny and very strict to staying in character, and offerings other-worldly and like nothing else you’ll find in the park. But I hate to say – the drinks are awful. I’ve tried 3 alcoholic varieties and 2 non-alcoholic options at this point, and none of them were good. The drinks are all SO sweet, honestly tasting more like Hawaiian punch than any kind of cocktail. And for whatever it’s worth, the drinks cannot have much of any booze in them. I usually start to feel buzzed early into my second drink, and I downed two in half an hour here and felt absolutely nothing. So I’ll give 5 stars for atmosphere and one for drinks, meeting in the middle at 3. I’d say overall, the Cantina is worth visiting once for the experience – and then you can skip it on future trips.

One final word about a specific drink – the Fuzzy Tauntaun’s “buzzz” foam is no joke. It completely numbs your lips and tongue, and feels a little like pop rocks candy. I didn’t mind it – I just wish I had a warning first!

MY FAVORITES

  • none, honestly

TRIVIA

To keep crowds moving in Oga’s Cantina, you’ll be limited to 45 minutes, and can only order 2 drinks per person. I was anxious about this before I visited, but honestly, it’s plenty of time to experience it.

The droid DJ’s name is R-3X. You may recognize him from the original Star Tours.

The Cantina’s name comes from Oga Garra, the secretive crime boss who oversees Black Spire Outpost. According to Galaxy’s Edge lore, she’s usually hanging out in the Cantina, but you’ll never spot her among the crowd.

  1. I visited in February 2020 and the bartender DID warn me about the Fuzzy Tauntaun when I ordered it…I just didn’t believe him! I didn’t mind it though, haha.

  2. I think over time Oga’s will perfect the drinks. I def got the vibe the first variation of the menu was way more about gimmicks and “Instagram-ability” more than taste. Same with the blue/green milk.

    • I completely agree on the Instagram-ability point. I hope you’re right and the drinks only get better from here!

  3. Gotta be honest, Duchess, you’re dead wrong on this one! I think the drinks are tasty. I don’t disagree about the alcohol conten…basically non-alcoholic. But I thought the flavors were fun and LOVED the foam!
