In Disneyland, sometimes it’s easy to forget the park has only been around since 1955. So many of the park’s fixtures just feel like they’ve always been there, from the stone architecture of Fantasyland to the dense forests of Critter Country. In fact, most of Disneyland’s components serve that specific purpose – to alter your sense of reality.

Most – not all. In fact, some of Disneyland’s scenery long predates the park. You might remember my post about the Dominguez Tree, Adventureland’s palm dating back to 1896. But did you know the Disneyland Resort’s oldest tree hides in Fantasyland?

To find the oldest tree, take a tour of the Storybook Land Canal Boats. Pay close attention to Pinocchio’s Village, with the Matterhorn towering behind it. You’ll see a 2-foot tree next to Geppetto’s Workshop: the Mugo Pine.

Disney estimates the Mugo Pine is over 150 years old. Unlike the Dominguez Tree, the Mugo Pine moved from its original location. The tree found its new home when the Canal Boats arrived in the park in 1956. Therefore, the Dominguez Tree claims to be the first tree in Disneyland. But the Mugo Pine claims the title of the oldest living tree at the Disneyland Resort.
