New Orleans Square celebrates the best of The Big Easy, from the food to the architecture to the sounds of jazz rolling down the street. But in a little corner shop, there’s a hidden gem that also pays tribute to local artists and generations of storytellers within the city.
To find this hidden gem, head into Eudora’s Chic Boutique.
On the back wall of the shop, you’ll see a unique chair on display. This is the YAYA Storytelling Chair, designed by YAYA Artists in New Orleans. The chair’s design celebrates the culture of New Orleans, while infusing elements of The Princess and the Frog‘s story into the details.
The plaque reads:
YAYA (Young Aspirations Young Artists) was founded to empower and strengthen the creative talents of young people in New Orleans. The original “YAYAs” developed their artistic voice by telling stories on discarded chairs that they refurbished and painted. Today, YAYA Artists work with a wider range of media, but the chair remains a cornerstone of the program.
This chair, designed by YAYA Artists, depicts unique elements of local culture in New Orleans.
