If you’ve ever explored the shops on Main Street USA, you know that each has its own distinct personality, its own type of merchandise, and sometimes, its own details and decor. One of the tiniest shops on Main Street is a toy shop, hidden behind a jewelry store and a clothing/accessories store. But this tucked away shop is not to be missed, as it boasts a hidden gem of its own: the Toy Shelf!
To find the Toy Shelf, go halfway down Main Street, to the cross street. Enter the corner shop on the west side (to the left of the Carnation Cafe patio). Walk through the shop to the back, and continue on until you reach the back toy store. Look up at the crown molding, and you’ll see a shelf full of antique Disney toys.
The lower level of the shelf has a working miniature train, a tribute to Walt Disney’s lifelong love of locomotives. The upper level mimics a child’s bedroom, and includes tons of iconic Disney characters. The walls also feature antique photos and silhouette’s from Main Street USA’s silhouette studio.
The Toy Shelf’s large cast of characters includes favorites from Peter Pan, Marry Poppins, Snow White and the Seven Dwarves, Beauty and the Beast, Bambi, and more.
Main Street USA’s toy shelf is just another way the turn of the century street brings vintage charm to modern day shoppers. Though none of the shops actually sell the model toys on display, the bedroom provides a glimpse into what is basically a fantasy of any younger Disney fan; a room filled with all of your fictional friends.
