Buena Vista Street is a special little land in California Adventure. It’s the only one in the park designed to feel like a real, living neighborhood – complete with newspapers, local transportation, and visible apartments. And if you visit Atwater Ink and Paint Art Supply, next to Trolley Treats, you’ll find more evidence of daily life.

Atwater Ink and Paint Art Supply Bulletin Board

The Atwater Bulletin Board has tons of little flyers that help bring the residents of Buena Vista Street to life. The ads include baseball games, a farmer’s market, and children’s hour at the library. Most of these ads have little references to Buena Vista Street, from the Julius Katz business card to the Kingswell spare room for rent. In addition, I’ve found the following references to classic Disney movies:

  • 101 Dalmatians – Roger’s piano lessons and Anita’s dog walking
  • Dumbo – WDP circus
  • Snow White and the Seven Dwarves – production by the “Flower Street Players”

If you have a moment during your Buena Vista Street shopping, it’s definitely fun to check out the bulletin board (you’ll find it behind the cash register). In my experience, cast members are happy to point out some of the flyers, and I’m sure you’ll spot something I missed!

  1. Late to the party, but I just wanted to point out a few more references.

Elocution and Comportment Lessons by CC Nash phone DD1 904 – Clarence Charles Nash was born in 1904 and was the original voice actor for Donald Duck.

Firehouse Four looking to expand – Firehouse Five Plus Two was the Dixieland band made up of Disney employees including legends Ward Kimball, Frank Thomas and Harper Goff.

Kingswell Ave studio space, including garage – Roy Walt’s first animation “studio” when they joined up in LA was in their uncle’s garage. They moved into a real estate office on Kingswell when they could afford it.

  2. I love Buena Vista Street and the whole vibe of the entrance to California Adventure. I love seeing Cathay Circle and usually head there for lunch at least one of the days I am visiting the parks. I don’t recall having seen the Atwater Bulletin Board, yet I love little details like this that set the scene. Disney has always been great at this sort of thing in all their parks. Something to look out for next time when I can travel overseas COVID-free again. Looking forward to that day!

    • Me too! It’s honestly one of my favorite places in the park. Carthay Circle is by far my favorite restaurant and I just love shopping in Elias & Co. I’m a huge fan of art deco so the whole area is just magical 🙂
