LOCATION
Main Street USA – Carefree Corner had a beautiful view from its front door. The shop overlooked the central hub and castle, across the street from the Refreshment Corner. Today, this space houses the Plaza Point Holiday Shoppe.
EXPERIENCE
Details:
- Merchandise – free park maps, official guest book
- Unique Features – marquee reading “Founded 1792” (eventually painted over)
When visitors strolled down Main Street, they could swing by the Carefree Corner to sign a guest book and forever memorialize their trip to the resort. This corner shop was the street’s primary information center, providing guests with resources about the park alongside the chance to register in the guest book as an official Disneyland visitor.
CLOSURE
For decades, the Corner was a valuable resource for park guests – and was the first place to offer free park maps before they migrated to the gates. Eventually, Disneyland moved its primary information center from the Carefree Corner to City Hall, opening up this space for retheming. Over the years numerous shops came and went, the longest lasting being the Photo Supply Co., which operated from 1994 – 2021.
TRIVIA
The Carefree Corner’s official address was 222 Main Street.
Before the Corner opened, this space housed the “Plaza Apartments”, a guest registry location.
From 1989 – 1994, Disneyland reopened a “Carefree Corner” in this space. But this time, the shop was a merchandise location with some guest information, rather than being a fully dedicated tourist info and registration space.
