EXPERIENCE

Details:

  • Merchandise – Metal and wood sculptures
  • Unique Features – Metalwork marquee designed to look like a doily

Every turn-of-the-century American town needed a blacksmith and woodworker, so why not combine them into one gift shop? At Ellen’s, visitors could choose from a variety of miniature sculptures, picture frames, and other small metal and wood souvenirs.

CLOSURE

When you have famous neighbors, sometimes you get eclipsed. In this case, Ellen’s Gift Shop gradually lost attention to its larger neighbor, Hallmark Card Shop, before Hallmark finally absorbed it. Ellen’s officially lost its namesake in 1957, and the space officially became part of the Hallmark shop in 1960.

TRIVIA

Ellen’s paid tribute to Ellen Wynegar, owner of local company Wynegar Enterprises.
