Summer 2000 – December 2012
LOCATION
Main Street USA – The Cone Shop was tucked into Main Street’s central intersection, slightly off the beaten path. Guests would wander into the eastern alleyway and find the shop at the very end, next to the lockers.
EXPERIENCE
Details:
- Merchandise – Ice cream & sundaes
- Unique Features – neon ice cream cone marquee
If you were craving ice cream on Main Street and saw a long line at Gibson Girl, there was no need to fret. Hop across the street, and you’d find the Main Street Cone Shop. This hidden little ice cream spot served sundaes, sodas, and sweet treats. The courtyard patio seating also made a wonderful place to unwind and people watch.
CLOSURE
Generally speaking, shops that don’t open regularly in Disneyland tend to have a short shelf life. This was very much the case for the Cone Shop. Main Street USA didn’t really need two ice cream shops (despite Gibson Girl’s popularity), and the Cone Shop finally closed at the end of 2012. Its patio seating remains – and it’s one of my favorite places to sit down for a quick regroup.
TRIVIA
This shop never ran during full park hours; the shop often closed early or didn’t open at all on quieter days.
I worked at Bordens Cone Shop from 1975-1979. It was next to Sara Lee.
THANK YOU. I felt like a crazy person trying to convince my husband that I remembered a little ice cream place down at the end there!
Hahaha! Glad I could help you feel less crazy 🙂
