Steakhouse 55 Source: Disney Dining

November 2006 – July 2021

LOCATION

Disneyland Hotel – Steakhouse 55 was the Disneyland Hotel’s “signature” dining spot, located inside the largest hotel building (the only one not named after a “land”!). To find the restaurant, guests walked along the west side of the pools. The restaurant was on the lower level, not too far from Goofy’s Kitchen.

EXPERIENCE

Details:

  • Service Type – table service
  • Seating – indoor dining room
  • Entertainment – none

Steakhouse 55, as you may have guessed by the name, was primarily a steakhouse. This restaurant was one of the resort’s three “signature” dining options, meaning fine dining within the resort (the other two being Carthay Circle and Napa Rose). The menu and decor both drew inspiration from Old Hollywood, and the warm atmosphere made this restaurant a fan favorite for its entire run.

CLOSURE

Along with the rest of the resort, Steakhouse 55 closed in 2020 due to the pandemic. But when the Disneyland Hotel reopened in July 2021, fans were stunned to learn that the fine dining location would be closed permanently. Disney never provided a reason for the closure, and the lack of a replacement in development leaves many hoping this restaurant will someday reopen.

TRIVIA

The “55” comes from 1955, the year Disneyland park made its debut.

This restaurant was one of the few locations at the resort to serve both breakfast and dinner, but not lunch.

For guests not looking to eat a full meal, Steakhouse 55 also had a lounge that served drinks and snacks.

On select days, the steakhouse offered a special afternoon tea experience.

This restaurant replaced Granville’s, another steakhouse, which opened in 1983.

  1. sad to hear steakhouse 55 is gone it was very good for steaks and leaves the Napa Rose as the top place to eat at Disney. I would also put the cathay circle as the top place to eat in a park and totally worth tying it to a show. Lastly fro a cajun flair Jazz Kitchen is the choice we always got there our first night in town

  2. Yes, all was a la carte, but certainly well worth it. The coziness of the ambiance was the best and the food left us all wanting to return. Btw, does Disney Corp. offer discounts to us seniors for anything at the park?

    • Unfortunately no, I am not aware of any senior discounts for tickets, merchandise, or food at Disneyland.

  3. Thanks for a look back at my favorite Disneyland restaurant, Steakhouse 55. I’m still in mourning at its closure. Although I had dinner there a few times during my visits, what I really enjoyed was breakfast. The atmosphere was quiet, the booths were comfortable, and the service was great. I even had a few favorite servers there. I loved the 1940’s photos of movie stars on the walls and I enjoyed the music. Some was Disney music, but other songs were standards from the 1940’s. I’ll always remember the version of “Moonlight Becomes You.” Thanks again for acknowledging this wonderful restaurant.

    • Thanks for sharing your memories, Barbara! I’m sad to say I never dined there before its closure so I like hearing about those kinds of details 🙂

      • I’m sorry that you didn’t get to enjoy Steakhouse 55. It was rather pricey at dinner (everything was ala carte) and when the prices got to be too rich for my blood, I stopped going there for dinner. But I never gave up going there for breakfast and in its last few years, I would have breakfast there every morning during my stay. (In previous years, I used to go to a couple of other restaurants for breakfast as well, so there was only one morning at Steakhouse 55, maybe two.) I’ve had some “cast members” tell me that this restaurant was their “secret” place to go to for breakfast!

        • That’s really cool! I love a good breakfast place. I tend to just start running around in the park and suddenly it’s lunch time – so it’s nice to sit down for a breakfast every now and again.

    • That’s lovely! That is a beautiful song. I never got to go there before it closed (hoping they bring it back!) but I love hearing details like this.
