We’re now officially in the full swing of summertime, and the Disneyland Resort is packed. If you’re planning a trip this summer, make sure you always have two things with you: water and patience. You’ll need plenty of both!
Last month was as busy as ever across the resort. From new characters to new construction to a new show – the happiest place on earth keeps rolling out changes. Let’s take a look back at May’s happenings.
FAN FAVORITE CHARACTERS DEBUT AT THE RESORT
In both parks, fans have reason to celebrate – new characters are here and ready to meet you! In Avengers Campus, America Chavez made her parks debut, greeting guests in the center courtyard and in the Ancient Sanctum.

And of course, the Scarlet Witch has arrived too. I just love her costume so much.

Over in Galaxy’s Edge, two characters have landed on Batuu, with two more coming later this year. Boba Fett and Fennec Shand have been roaming Black Spire Outpost, trying to keep a low profile and steer clear of Storm Troopers.

And later this year (date TBD), Din Djarin (the Mandalorian) and Grogu (the child) will join the cast of characters exploring the land. Stay tuned for more updates on that front – we don’t have any character photos yet either.
A MAJOR ADVENTURELAND TREE SAYS GOODBYE
As I mentioned last month, Tarzan’s Treehouse is being re-worked (though the new theme remains a mystery). As part of this effort, the central tree that marked its entrance has been removed. While I’ll miss the swinging bridge and Jabba the Hutt detail, this tree was a massive bottleneck, and I’m optimistic this will help clear up some of the traffic jams in the area. Side note – this tree was not part of the original Swiss Family Robinson Treehouse.

OTHER UPDATES
The Fantasyland theater finally has a show! On May 28, Tale of the Lion King finally opened to park guests. This show replaces Mickey and the Magical Map, which never reopened after the resort’s pandemic closure.
As of this month, Disneyland has suspended sales of new Magic Keys. If you are an existing Magic Key holder, you will still be able to renew when your pass expires.
After a long, long closure (due to both Avengers Campus construction and the pandemic), the Red Car Trolley is finally returning to California Adventure. Right now, we don’t have a specific date beyond “this summer”.
And finally, visitors to Downtown Disney got a special treat throughout May: an elaborate sand sculpture. The sculpture, located outside of the Star Wars Trading Post, depicts a scene from the new Obi-Wan series that debuted on Disney+ last week.
