You can find all kinds of amazing Disneyland trivia from limitless sources – books, blogs, videos, Pinterest. But unfortunately, not all sources are made equal. Social media is incredible for sharing Disneyland tips and tricks…and for rapidly spreading urban legends. Here 5 pieces of Disneyland trivia that aren’t actually true.

1. MYTH: There is a peg in the ground marking the center of Disneyland.

Observant visitors will notice a gold peg in the ground just beyond the castle’s archway, facing the carousel. Many people claim this marked the dead center of Disneyland before the addition of Toontown, but that was never the case. Even before Toontown, the center of the park was on Main Street. Instead, this peg helped Imagineers keep the castle properly centered and aligned with the street and train station.

2. MYTH: The purple teacup spins faster than the others.

Sorry guys, no teacup spins faster than the others. It is true that all the cups used to spin faster but were slowed for guest safety in the 2000s. But no teacup, not even the purple one, escaped the slowdown.

3. MYTH: Disneyland has a secret underground tunnel system to transport characters.

This fact is 100% true for the Magic Kingdom in Florida, and you can actually see the “utilidors” during some of the park’s behind-the-scenes tours. But in California, character performers move from land to land in regular clothes, transforming backstage in their respective lands.

4. MYTH: The Haunted Mansion is the final resting place for many park guests, when loved ones scatter their ashes.

This one is a partial myth, because ash spreading does happen. However, Disneyland is fully aware of this, so the park is constantly being vacuumed and swept. If a guest somehow manages to get ashes into the park, they’re probably not going to stay there – they’ll most likely end up in an Anaheim waste treatment center. And if you get caught trying to release ashes in the park, you’ll be immediately kicked out and probably banned for life. Worst case, you’ll be prosecuted – spreading ashes at the park is a misdemeanor.

5. MYTH: Walt’s frozen head is kept underneath Disneyland.

Sorry, guys. Like I said in #3, there’s nothing cool or exciting underneath Disneyland. Walt was cremated and interred at Forest Lawn Memorial Park in Glendale, CA.
