Sometimes, counting down for a Disneyland trip can be just as exciting as walking through the gates. A countdown calendar definitely helps build the excitement – especially when the numbers hit single digits. A while back, I shared a block countdown calendar that’s easy to put together. Here’s another variation that can be a daily activity: a tear-away countdown calendar!
What you’ll need:
- paper (can be construction paper, printer paper, or craft paper)
- pen/markers
- tape
- string
- Optional: printer
Instructions:
1. Start by deciding what you want the interior of each calendar piece to look like. Do you want each to be a photo from a previous trip? An image with a hidden Mickey to find? A trivia question? Honestly, your imagination is the limit here. For my version, I decided to use photos from previous park trips. I cropped them to super long and narrow sizes (in my case, 1.5″ tall x 6.5″ wide), so they will create rings.
2. Cut up the paper into strips. On the blank sides, write a number. This will be your countdown.
3. Time to create the calendar. Start with the lowest number (in my case, 1, but it could also be 0!). Tape the paper into a ring. Take the next number, string it through, and then tape that into a ring as well. Continue until you have completed the chain. Loop a piece of string through the last ring, and you can hang it up pretty much anywhere.
And that’s it! Let the countdown to your next trip begin.
