Dapper Day is a magical day that happens twice a year, when Disneyland visitors step back in time and dress in their finest vintage looks. Some create pinup interpretations of classic characters, and others dress with no Disney influence at all. If you’ve admired these looks and want to join in on the fun, I’ve rounded up three different sites to help you get started. There are no “rules” to Dapper Day (except for the usual – no adults dressed in character costumes), so have fun and use it as an opportunity to express yourself!

Best Choice For “Everyday” Dapper: ModCloth

For those that like vintage style, it’s not a bad idea to buy retro-style clothes for everyday use, and steer away from more costume-y pieces. ModCloth has a huge selection of vintage styles, most of which would make great additions to an everyday wardrobe. One tip when browsing this site – ModCloth is a brand, but they also sell lots of other brands. As a result, sizing and quality can vary wildly. Pay close attention to fabric – shinier clothes will definitely look more costume-y in person – and make sure to check size charts for each brand on the site.

Apologies fellas – this site only offers womenswear.

Best Choice For Disneybounding: Unique Vintage

If you’re looking to mix Disneybounding with your Dapper Day outfit, Unique Vintage is a really great option. For those unfamiliar with the term, Disneybounding is when you dress up in regular clothes that capture the colors/shapes/etc. of a character – it’s a way for grownups to dress up without breaking costume rules in the parks, or to have fun at home. Unique Vintage frequently releases Disney-inspired pieces you can use to build outfits. I’m particularly fond of the Sleeping Beauty “make it pink/make it blue” cardigan – I can just imagine posing in this in front of the castle! The men’s selection is noticeably less accessible for Disneybounding, but you could definitely still make a few characters work, not to mention Walt himself.

Best Choice For The Whole Family: Amazon

And finally, with some creative searching, Amazon is an excellent place to find Dapper Day outfits and accessories, often for far less than other online sites. This is the best place to shop if you’re dressing up the whole family, and you can even avoid purchasing a whole outfit if you don’t want to spend that much. Sometimes, retro-inspired accessories can be more than enough to get into the dapper spirit. Pro tip here: use keywords like “retro”, “50s”, and “dapper”, and you’ll see tons of similar results to my suggestions below. If you add “Minnie” or “Mickey”, you’ll also get lots of polka dots and red & black.
