Inside Out Emotional Whirlwind

June 2019 – present

LOCATION

Pixar Pier – The Inside Out Emotional Whirlwind is tucked beneath the tracks of the Incredicoaster. To find the attraction, head toward the Pixar Pal-A-Round from either direction. If you’re coming from the Goofy’s Sky School/Silly Swings side, you’ll see the Whirlwind on your right, after you walk beneath the track. If you’re coming from the land’s main entrance, keep going past the Pal-A-Round. The Whirlwind will be on your left, as the path starts to curve toward the right.

BACKGROUND

When Pixar Pier opened in 2018, the land had no Inside Out attraction. But with A Bug’s Land soon closing on the other side of the park, Disney had the opportunity to re-theme an existing structure and add it to the pier. Flik’s Flyers, a popular gliding attraction, seemed like the perfect fit for the space. When A Bug’s Land finally closed in the fall of 2018, Flik’s Flyers began its transformation into the Emotional Whirlwind. The newly themed ride was installed in the spring of 2019, opening to the public at the end of June.

EXPERIENCE

Details:

  • Single Rider Line – no
  • Fast Pass – no
  • Height Requirement – none
  • Duration – 1:30

If you visit the Whirlwind, you’ll begin your journey by entering Riley’s mind. You’ll see her memory orbs neatly stored on shelves, with Joy, Sadness, Disgust, Anger, and Fear hanging out nearby. You’ll then board one of eight “memory movers”, to help the emotions keep Riley’s memories moving and organized. For about a minute and a half, you’ll glide through the air, moving memory orbs around in Riley’s mind. At the end of your trip, you’ll return to Inside Out Headquarters, conveniently close to Bing Bong’s Sweet Stuff.

Inside Out Emotional Whirlwind

MY RATING: ★★★☆☆

The Inside Out Emotional Whirlwind is a nice addition to Pixar Pier. This ride is great for little ones, but fun enough to keep adults riding entertained too. I only gave it 3 stars because pretty much all you can see is Incredicoaster track in every direction. But if you don’t mind not having much to look at, it’s a ride worth visiting at least once.

VISITING TIPS

The Whirlwind is a tricky ride to provide tips for, because it’s wildly inconsistent. Some days, it’s a walk on even if the park is a little busy. And other times, lines build up in Pixar Pier while other parts of the park don’t have much traffic. My recommendation is to check out the wait time as you’re passing through to something else. If the line looks busy, it’s not a bad way to kill time between Midway Mania or Incredicoaster fast passes. If you don’t have a fast pass, trying swinging by later in the evening to see if the crowds have thinned out.

One other tip – if you’re prone to motion sickness, make sure to sit on the right side when you enter your vehicle. That’s the side that will face forward, and it will be much less nauseating than going backward.

TRIVIA

Did you spot all 5 emotions? Joy and Sadness stand on either side of the marquee. Disgust and Fear hang out on the side wall, next to the main queue. And Anger perches atop the large memory wall that wraps around the attraction.

There is a memory mover dedicated to each of the 5 emotions, plus one for Rainbow Unicorn, one for Bing Bong, and one for the Forgetters: Paula and Bobby.
