Fantasyland is the epicenter of royalty in Disneyland. Beneath the towers of the castle, you’ll find wandering princes and princesses, evil queens, even the occasional fairies offering counsel to various members of Disney monarchies. Fantasyland provides a regal backdrop for these characters, right down to the tiniest details.

On various signs, banners, and gold detailing, you’ll find a repeated symbol.

This is a fleur de lis, an iconic symbol of royalty. No one knows the exact origin of the floral image, but many different cultures have used it as a royal emblem. From India to France to Russia, the symbol adorns countless palaces, weaponry, and coins.

In Fantasyland, look for fleur de lis on the castle, above the carousel, and hidden within a few different buildings across the courtyards. These tiny little nods to royalty subtly remind visitors that they’re exploring alongside princesses, princes, kings, and queens.
