July 1955 – Summer 1957

LOCATION

Main Street USA – Sunny View Farms Jams & Jellies had a prime spot on Main Street, right at the cross section next to Carnation Ice Cream Parlor. To find the shop, visitors wandering Main Street would’ve stayed on the western side of the street, passing the cross street before spotting it on the left, just after Carnation’s corner entrance.

EXPERIENCE

Details:

  • Merchandise– Jams, jellies, and candied fruit
  • Unique Features– One of the only shops on Main Street with a raised flower bed beneath its front window

Visitors to Main Street USA in the 1950s entered shops a lot different than what the park operates today. Back then, the shops along the street sold items you’d find on a main street in a small town, from shoes to tobacco to preservatives. Sunny View Farms sold a variety of jams and candied fruit, advertising the goods in the shop as delicious gifts to take home from the park.

CLOSURE

The Disney history books don’t write much about Sunny View Farms, so it’s hard to determine exactly why the shop closed. My best guess is that not many guests purchased jams and jellies during their trips to the park, since the shop closed within two years to become a candy store (which strangely, never had an official name). By 1960, the space no longer operated as a separate shop, instead being absorbed by the Sunkist Citrus House.

TRIVIA

A sign outside of the store advertised the shop’s “preserves of distinction”.
