September 1987 – present
LOCATION
Frontierland – The Westward Ho Trading Co. faces the central square in Frontierland, found just beyond the entrance bridge. If you arrive in Frontierland from Main Street, you’ll see the shop on your right, just before the Shootin’ Exposition. If you enter Frontierland from the Rivers of America side, you’ll see the shop on your left, just before the path narrows at the bridge.
EXPERIENCE
Details:
- Merchandise – Pins, lanyards, and collectible sets
- Price Range – Most pins under $15, with a few pricier collectibles and sets
- Unique Features – Antique cabin décor and furniture above the pin shelves
The Westward Ho Trading Co. is the largest pin shop in Disneyland (excluding shops like the Emporium that sell pins alongside other merchandise). Despite its small size, the Trading Co. has a massive collection of pins, and almost always has exclusive or limited-edition pins for sale behind the counter.
SHOPPING TIPS
If you’re visiting the Trading Co. to purchase a limited-edition or event pin, get to the shop as early as you can. I’ve seen lines for exclusive pins reach all the way to the Fantasy Faire, and they sell out very, very quickly.
For those just browsing or casually shopping, I like to visit the Trading Co. at night. Crowds start to thin out in Frontierland’s square after Fantasmic! and the fireworks throughout most of the year, and it’s really nice to hang out on the porch and look out at the lamp lit square.
TRIVIA
The shop has an identical Chief to the one on Main Street; he periodically leaves and returns in a slightly different location on the porch.
Originally, this shop was called the Frontierland Trading Post, and sold frontier-themed souvenirs. Later, the Trading Post sold candy and pastries, before becoming a pin shop in the 80s.
Westward Ho Trading Co. gets its name from Westward Ho the Wagons, Disney’s 1956 film starring Fess Parker (better known as Davy Crockett).
