Today marks the last day of an extraordinary decade for the Disneyland Resort. From California Adventure 2.0 to Galaxy’s Edge to the 60th anniversary, 2010-2019 has never offered a dull moment for the happiest place on earth. And in the final month of the decade, Disneyland served up a few more bits of news – mostly in the form of exciting things to come! Let’s dive into the final recap of the 2010s.

CANDLELIGHT PROCESSIONAL

At the start of the month, the resort celebrated the holidays with its annual Candlelight Processional. This ceremony begins with a choir performing carols on Main Street’s Town Square, ending with a special surprise host retelling the story of Christmas. This year’s host was the man behind the music of Moana, Lin-Manuel Miranda.

FINALLY THEY’RE OPENING UP THE GATES

The big headline from December is “Coming Soon!” This month, we learned specific details about four major projects happening across the resort. First, we now know the opening date for the new “Magic Happens” parade: February 28.

On the north side of Disneyland, we have a date for even bigger opening: January 17. Rise of the Resistance will welcome its first riders in just a few weeks, giving Galaxy’s Edge its second attraction.

Over in California Adventure, the park’s newest land got its own official opening season (no specific date yet). Avengers Campus welcomes new recruits starting summer 2020. On opening day, visitors will be able to ride the highly anticipated Spider-Man attraction, explore Avengers HQ, or dine in Pym Test Kitchen…aside from meeting all their favorite heroes, of course.

And finally, we got another sneak peek at Toontown’s next big adventure. Disney Parks Blog released a preview video of the Runaway Railway, though it’s the Hollywood Studios version. While the opposite coasts may have some variations to the attraction, the Toontown version will be very similar.

The Hollywood Studios version opens next year, but we west coasters have to wait a few more years for our turn.

OTHER UPDATES

Starting in January, Disneyland Express will cease operations shuttling passengers between LAX or John Wayne and the resort. There’s a lot of speculation this is paving the way for Disney to replicate Orlando’s “Magical Express” service for resort visitors, but we have yet to hear any official announcement.

And finally, keep your eyes peeled at the resort for Disneyland’s newest color collection. Belle of the Ball Bronze closes out a year filled with these Instagram-worthy colors, and the items area available in both parks and in Downtown Disney.
