As the Valentines and hearts come down on Main Street, the resort is gradually shifting into spring mode. Refurbishment Season ends next month, and the warm weather will bring fresh flowers, celebrations, and increased crowds. Compared to the last few months, February was fairly quiet at the Disneyland Resort. But let’s take a look back at a few events, the end of two major refurbishments, and a special celebration of Monsters Inc.

WE HAVE A 2319!

February 3, 2019 unofficially became Monsters Inc. day at the Disneyland Resort. Why? Surely you remember this classic scene from the film.

Visitors stopped by Hollywood Land to celebrate with Mike & Sulley, and kept a close eye out for stray socks.

REUSABLE BAGS

Last fall, Disneyland made a step toward sustainability by removing plastic lids from drinks. This month, the resort launched another wave of waste reduction: reusable bags available for shoppers.

This is the first time the resort has offered reusable bags to guests, in a further attempt to reduce the incredible amount of plastic distributed daily across the parks and Downtown Disney.

SWEETHEARTS NITE

In celebration of Valentine’s Day, Disneyland hosted an after-hours event celebrating Disney couples. The event featured many rarely seen Disney duos, including Milo and Kida from Atlantis, Hercules and Meg from Hercules, and of course, many other of your favorites.

The event also included a few amazing photo ops, including the kiss from Sleeping Beauty, Carl & Ellie’s house from Up, the magic carpet from Aladdin, and the boat ride from Tangled.

If you missed out on the Sweethearts Nite event, California Adventure announced another one! For more information about the Marvel-themed celebration, check out the official event page here.

OTHER UPDATES

World of Color finally reopened this month after a nearly 10-month long hiatus. Disney never announced an official reason for the long closure, but I’ve read speculation that Pixar Pier construction  caused damage to the infrastructure. Again, that’s just speculation – I have no official information stating the reason for the long hiatus without major show changes.

The Get Your Ears On Celebration kicked off this month, marking 90 years of Mickey and Minnie. For more information about this spring celebration, check out my previous post here.

Another long refurbishment came to an end with the grand reopening of Tangaroa Terrace. This quick-service restaurant shares a building with Trader Sam’s, and the restaurant now features a refreshed look and seating area.

And finally, it’s now officially the year of the pig! Disneyland’s Lunar New Year festival concluded this month, unofficially marking the end of the winter season at the resort.
