I’m so sorry for missing the last few typical posting days! I have had the busiest work month I’ve experienced in years, and that combined with some surprise apartment building issues that took up a lot more time than I was expecting…I fell behind on almost everything, including blogging.
But I’m getting back into the swing of things, right in time for the start of Disneyland’s summer season. Let’s take a look back at June across the Disneyland Resort.
A NEW ANIMATRONIC CAUSES SOME FAN CONTROVERSY
Pirates of the Caribbean reopened this month after a lengthy refurbishment, and a surprise addition is leaving fans (at least online) very divided.
Near the beginning of the ride, guests pass through a treasure room, full of pirate skeletons. Now, one of those skeletons comes to life with an animatronic featuring a transforming face.
The reaction from the jump was VERY mixed. Fans point out that this animatronic now comes before the “transformation tunnel”, where you left the skeletons behind and entered the world of living pirates. It also lessens the impact of the skeleton/face transformation at that tunnel, because this same illusion now comes earlier (and seems less artfully done?). I’m withholding full judgment until I see it in person, but from the videos I can certainly understand why people that love this attraction are quite skeptical.
A GUEST FALLS DOWN THE BIG DROP ON TIANA’S BAYOU ADVENTURE
Last week, a 13-year old guest unfortunately climbed out of his log on Tiana’s Bayou Adventure before the final drop, falling the ~50 feet outside of a ride vehicle. He was taken to a local hospital as a precaution, but incredibly, news outlets reported he did not sustain any serious injuries.
I’ve always been amazed this ride has no seat belt or lap bar. And now I wonder if during the next big refurbishment, those might get installed.
OOGIE BOOGIE BASH TICKETS GO ON SALE
Every year I’m amazed at how early Disneyland turns its attention to Halloween. And even though it’s only June, we’re back here again!

Oogie Boogie Bash tickets are on sale now, and Disneyland has announced their full Halloween season lineup. I’ll have a post on that in the coming weeks. Note for anyone who has attended in years past: The Bash will not include a parade this year, if that factors in your decision to buy tickets. Instead, it will be replaced by a Haunted Mansion themed dance party.
OTHER UPDATES
To celebrate the release of Toy Story 5, each of the three resort hotels (Disneyland Hotel, Grand Californian, and Pixar Place Hotel), will be hosting Poolside Splash Bash, parties featuring music, games, and visits from your favorite toys.
And finally, the Disney Parks Blog released a summer foodie guide focused on refreshing sweet treats and drinks to help you stay cool. My personal favorite on the list is the cookie butter churro sundae from Golden Horseshoe!
