It’s Maaaaaay!!!!

This winter has felt so brutally long, and the spring has been mostly crappy weather where I live. So I’m so ready to shift into early summer (which for me starts Memorial Day, no matter what the solstice says!). Bring on the later sunsets and blooming flowers – we’re all ready.

But before we turn fully to summer mode, here’s a look back at April across the Disneyland resort.

NEW CHARACTERS AHEAD OF MAY THE 4TH

In the run up to Star Wars Day (May the 4th), Disneyland announced several new things coming to Galaxy’s Edge. First, you’ll see an expanded cast of characters roaming Batuu.

Moving forward, different sections of Galaxy’s Edge will take place in separate parts of the timeline. The timeline will move east to west, starting with the original trilogy era (prequel trilogy may come someday, but nothing yet). Darth Vader, Leia Organa, Han Solo, and Luke Skywalker will roam the easternmost part of Batuu, near the Millennium Falcon, Frontierland entrances, and Savi’s Workshop.

The marketplace will be home to the Mandalorian era, with the Mandalorian himself, Grogu, and Ahsoka Tano meeting visitors.

Rey and the later resistance era fighters will hang out near Rise of the Resistance on the western side of the planet.

And finally, R2D2, who spans the full timeline, will roam freely across the full land.

And finally, to get us all hungry before the big day, Disney Parks Blog also released the official “foodie guide” for May the 4th. Check out the full list of new meals, snacks, drinks, desserts, and souvenirs coming to the resort here.

LEOTA & KIM GET WINDOWS ON MAIN STREET

If you’ve been a reader of this blog for a while, you might be familiar with the Windows on Main Street. These are the highest Disneyland honor bestowed upon Imagineers and contributors to the park’s magic. And this month, two very deserving women received a shared window.

Leota Toombs (Thomas) was an incredibly gifted Imagineer that paved the way for so many women who followed in her footsteps. She is the namesake and facial inspiration for Madame Leota in the Haunted Mansion, among many other park contributions. You can read my full post about her here.

Kim Irvine is a very talented Imagineer too – and Leota’s daughter! I’ll have a post coming on Kim in the near future, covering her 50+ year career with Disney that ended with her 2025 retirement.

It’s very sweet that mother and daughter are now honored together, right in the center of the street.

OTHER UPDATES

Bluey is here to stay! This month, Disneyland announced even more merch coming to the resort. You can see all the new offerings here.

It almost makes me sick to say it, but Disneyland has already started teasing that we’re “halfway to Halloween”. No official announcements yet, but stay tuned to social media – and of course I’ll share updates as they come in.

And finally, Disney Parks dropped a Make-A-Wish spot this month that is an absolute tearjerker. It’s such a bittersweet reminder of how magic can help the kids that need it the most.
