The internet is mostly awesome. You have access to unlimited information, ALL of the time. But that also means a lot of nonsense gets circulated, ALL of the time. And that’s definitely true for Disneyland “facts” and tips. Most people that have visited the parks know tall tales when they read them, but there’s one in particular that I see from time to time that I find especially silly.

Let’s talk about Disneyland jail.

If you do a quick search on Disneyland jail, you’ll see all kinds of stories. People claim there is a literal jail cell hidden on Main Street, which makes me think of this scene in Pirate’s.

I’ve seen claims that there’s a jail cell backstage, that Goofy dresses in a police uniform to watch the temporary prisoners, and one really outlandish pin on Pinterest claimed they make you write an apology letter to Mickey.

So, what’s the deal? What is “Disneyland jail”?

Disneyland jail is a security office. Depending on where you are in the parks, you’ll be taken to a different one – with the largest one being behind Main Street. There are no bars, no costumed characters…just security guards.

You can be taken in for all kinds of behavior – shoplifting, excessive drunkenness, sneaking backstage, etc. And your punishment will depend on your infraction. Minor problems or lenient security personnel may just remove you from the parks for the day. More severe behavior could result in your Magic Key being revoked or a lifetime ban. And behavior amounting to a  severe enough crime may even warrant your case being transferred to the Anaheim police department.

Ultimately, there’s just no motivation to do something stupid and see the Disneyland jail. You’ll surely just be disappointed!
