Any Disneyland fan knows Main Street USA takes you back in time, to an old school American town. But did you know that it’s based on a real place?
Walt Disney was raised in a small town called Marceline, Missouri. When he grew up and created his magical park, he drew inspiration from his childhood for the very first land guests would encounter.
Do you see the resemblance?
If you stop by the cinema, you’ll find a Marceline resident. Say hi to Tilly, and don’t forget to check out her name tag!
Of course, Main Street USA is not an exact copy of the real town. But Walt definitely kept his childhood home in mind when he designed his imaginary town square. You can learn more about Marceline and how it influenced Walt on the Walt Disney Museum website here.
So cool.
This area of the park must been extra special to Walt if it was based on his home. I didn’t know that, but it makes sense that a nostalgia area came from his own.
I can definitely see the resemblance. Thanks for sharing!
