EXPERIENCE

Details:

  • Service type – quick service
  • Seating – adjacent outdoor patio
  • Reservations – no
  • Entertainment – none
  • Menu

Aunt Cass Café is one of the largest dining spots in San Fransokyo Square. Here, you order food inside, and then sit outside along the waterfront to enjoy the views of Paradise Bay. Before or after your meal, you can also swing by the other side of the building to see how the sourdough you just ate is made.

MY RATING – ★★★☆☆

The best part of the café is the Boudin sourdough, which is a California staple and just one of my favorite things to eat in the park. However, the sandwiches and soups served here are very mediocre. It’s a good option if you just want some comfort food – a heart sandwich or a hot soup in a bread bowl. But otherwise, I think there are better restaurants in the nearby area.

MY FAVORITES

  • Turkey pesto club
  • Sourdough baguette

TRIVIA

This restaurant is named after Cass, the aunt of Hiro and Tadashi in Big Hero 6. In the movie, she owns a café called “Lucky Cat”.

This café replaced the Pacific Wharf Café, which had largely the same menu.

Aunt Cass Café serves Boudin bread, a famous San Francisco sourdough company. Though Boudin sells bread nationally, all of their products are baked using the “mother dough” from the San Francisco factory.

This isn’t trivia so much as a pro tip – buy a sourdough baguette or loaf here to share as a snack with your group in one of the longer lines. It’s so good, doesn’t make a mess, and is a good way to entertain yourself, especially if you’re in one of the super boring queues like the Incredicoaster or Midway Mania.
